An in-depth study into

The Book of Daniel

How to Understand and Approach Bible Prophecy

Why study the book of Daniel?

No wise man, enchanter, magician or diviner can explain to the king the mystery he has asked about, but there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries."

Daniel 2:27

There is a man in your kingdom who has the spirit of the holy gods in him. […] Call for Daniel, and he will tell you what the writing means.”

..............................

Daniel 5:11-12

You, Daniel, roll up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge.”

Lesson 1. How to Understand the Bible Prophecy

God does not do anything without revealing His secret to His servants the prophets, as the Bible says in Amos 3:7. He reveals deep and hidden things (Daniel 2:22). God, Who reveals mysteries, has disclosed what will happen at the end of days, as we can read in Daniel 2:28,29. He tells us beforehand, so that when it happens, our faith will be strengthened (John 14:29).

But why does God reveal future things?

Lesson 2. A Tale of Two Cities

The book of Daniel starts with two cities in antithesis, Jerusalem and Babylon, as a clue to a great controversy that is to be unfolded in the following chapters. While remaining in total control of history, God allowed the pagan Babylonians, as a punitive instrument, to capture the Jewish nation and destroy their capital city, Jerusalem.

Lesson 3. Contest of the Gods

When Nebuchadnezzar invaded Jerusalem at the time of the first captivity, he took from the Temple some of the sacred vessels and put them in the treasury of his gods. This act implied a contest of power and supremacy between the true God of heaven and the gods of Babylon.

Lesson 4. An Ancient Statue That Told the Time

God is always in control of His universe, in control of our world, ruling over the kingdoms and empires of our history. The dream God gave to Nebuchadnezzar, as well as subsequent events, made this absolutely clear. Human beings and satanic forces can only go as far as God will permit them.

Who could interpret that mysterious king's dream?

Lesson 5. The Prophecy that Ended with the Conversion of a King

It may surprise some to discover that the powerful king of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar wrote most of the contents of Daniel chapter 4. He has recorded his personal testimony for posterity, relating how his overwhelming conversion came about.

Who could have dared to challenge the king?

Lesson 6. Strange Beasts from the Depths of the Sea

Daniel received this vision about 50 years after the prophecy of Daniel 2. The Babylonian Empire was about to fall. All expositors of note agree that Daniel 7 parallels Daniel 2. Chapter 2 gave a panoramic survey of the future while chapter 7 invites deeper investigation.

Lesson 7. Identifying the Little Horn

As Daniel considered the 10 horns, he observed a “little horn” coming up amongst them but 3 of the those horns were “plucked up by the roots” in order to make room for it. Daniel was not only troubled but terrified by the scene. He was very concerned about the activities of this “little horn”.

Who is this little horn?

Lesson 8. Battle of the Beasts

This lessons shows Daniel 8's vision as a prophecy of successive empires: Medo-Persia symbolized by a ram, Greece by a goat led by Alexander the Great, and then Rome, represented by a "little horn," encompassing both pagan and papal phases, persecuting Jews and Christians.

Lesson 9. The Defiling of the Sanctuary

Chapter 8 in the book of Daniel details the "little horn's" actions against Christ and sanctuary defilement. The sanctuary symbolises salvation, foreshadowing Christ's sacrifice. The "Antichrist," identified as the papacy, defiles Christ's ministry. Isn't it amazing?

Lesson 10. The Judgement

This presentation interprets Daniel's prophecies in chapter 8 and 9, claiming papal Rome corrupted Christ's teachings, and that the 2,300-day prophecy points to 1844 as the start of a pre-advent judgment, requiring believers to be righteous for Christ's return.

What can we know about the 2,300 evening and morning prophecy?

Our final lesson emphasises the "time of the end," judgment, and a final "time of trouble" where allegiance to God (marked by Sabbath observance) is crucial. Ultimately, Christ triumphs, defending His faithful followers against Satan and the forces of evil.
